Fort Kochi is the heart of it: heritage streets strung with lights, festive markets, and the famous Cochin Carnival, which runs through the last week of December with parades, music, and street events.
New Year in Kerala
New Year's Eve is celebrated up and down the coast. Kovalam and Varkala beaches host lively evenings, resorts and houseboats put on special dinners, and Fort Kochi's carnival culminates with the traditional New-Year celebrations at midnight. A New Year's Eve on a private Alleppey houseboat is a quieter, very special alternative.

How early to plan a Christmas or New Year trip
This is the peak of the peak. Christmas and New Year stays — especially houseboats, beach resorts, and the better hotels — are the first to fill and often need to be confirmed well in advance.
