Where to find snow near Manali — Solang Valley, the Atal Tunnel, and Rohtang Pass — plus the best months and the activities on offer.

For many travellers, snow is the whole point of a Manali trip — and Solang Valley is where you find it. Here is a guide to snow and adventure at Solang.

Solang Valley

A short drive from Manali, Solang Valley is the hub for mountain activity — snow in winter, and paragliding, zorbing, and a ropeway in the warmer months, all set against big Himalayan views.

When is there snow?

Solang usually has snow from around December to February for snow play — sledging, snow tubing, and building snowmen. Exact conditions vary each year, so we confirm the latest before you travel.

Rohtang Pass & the Atal Tunnel

Rohtang Pass is a seasonal high pass that opens roughly May to October and needs a permit. The Atal Tunnel, opened in 2020, now gives year-round access toward Sissu and the Lahaul valley — a reliable snow-scenery option in winter.

Activities beyond snow

In season, Solang offers paragliding, a cable-car ropeway, and ATV rides, while nearby Manali adds river rafting and Old Manali's cafes.
